How Gella’s won Hays’ hearts
The story behind Gella’s is almost too charming to be true 🚜.
Gerald Wyman, a farmer from rural Brownell, Kansas, started homebrewing in his kitchen until his wife Janet banished the operation to the garage.
What began as a passion project turned into something much bigger when Wyman teamed up with developer Chuck Comeau, who was already leading efforts to bring downtown Hays back to life.
Together with more than fifty local investors, they sold off cattle, leased farmland, and poured everything into a restaurant that would honor the region’s German heritage while giving Hays a true “third place” to gather.
