Woodfield Mall is the largest shopping mall in the Chicago area and one of the largest in the country. It’s home to over 200 stores, including Macy’s, Sears, Lord & Taylor, and JCPenney.

LEGOLAND Discovery Center
Another attraction inside Woodfield Mall is the only LEGO®-themed indoor attraction in Illinois. The Legoland Discovery Center is a kids’ paradise with more than a million LEGO bricks! The place features hands-on play areas with LEGO models for building and even rides!
Some of the things you can do include building your own car and driving it down the Giant Speed Ramp. You can also listen in on a lesson from a Master Model Builder. The main attraction is a model of the Windy City called Miniland. With over a million bricks, you’ll see icons like the Bean, Willis Tower, and Soldier Field.
Your kids will have a field day here!
Spring Valley is perfect for a day out in the fresh air and having a peaceful outdoor adventure. The site is home to acres of forest areas, a nature center, hiking trails, and so many flora and fauna. There are also some top attractions inside the place like the Volkening Heritage Farm and Bison’s Bluff Nature Playground.
The place is considered an outdoor museum where you can observe nature at its finest. The Vera Meineke Nature Center has a variety of animal exhibits, gardens, and hiking trails. The Volkening Heritage Farm features demonstrations of traditional farming methods.
Some of the things to do here are fishing, model trains, and a carousel. You can also follow the walking and hiking trails. There’s a little something for everyone to do!
Water Works Indoor Water Park
If you’re looking for things to do with kids, head to Water Works. This water park is a great place to cool down on a hot day and features slides, pools, and a lazy river. Other features include a lap pool, beach entry pool, diving pool, and a water playground.
You can find this indoor water park in the community recreation center.
Something completely unique in Schaumburg is this dinner experience in Medieval Times.
This famous restaurant is all about transporting you to medieval times. The decor will take you to an 11th-century castle where diners are “guests of the queen.” This dinner theater offers an entertaining show with jousting, horsemanship, and falconry. The meal is served in a castle setting and includes chicken, ribs, sides, and a dessert.
Prairie Center for the Arts
Prairie Center for the Arts is the place to go if you want to watch performance arts. This theater features live performances of many things including music, dance, and plays. They also offer workshops for people who want to get involved in the performing arts as well as a gift shop with things like jewelry and pottery made by local artists.
They host an annual Prairie Arts Festival during Memorial Day weekend. If you’re in town during this time, you’ll see more than a hundred artists attending with many performances in store.
Volkening Lake is a local lake that you can go to that’s peaceful and has a few outdoor recreations you can do. This lake is a great place for fishing, canoeing, and boating. Alternatively, you can spend some time on the park benches or the open-air fitness area next door.
For the nightlife, the Hideout is a good option. This bar and restaurant is a great place to enjoy a night out with friends or family. They have things like live music, trivia nights, and bingo. Their menu is classic bar food of burgers, sandwiches, and pizzas. They also have karaoke which can be a fun evening for you.
The place is pretty affordable and is pretty casual. Bang out a song or two and close out the night with a few drinks with friends!
Trickster Art Gallery
If you’re looking for art, Trickster is the place to go. This contemporary art gallery offers rotating exhibitions by local and international artists. They also have a gift shop with things like jewelry, home decor, and clothing.
This is a great place to get unique gifts for people or just buy something special for yourself. Trickster Art Gallery also features the work of indigenous artists from North America and around the world.
International Sculpture Park
The Sculpture Park is a well-known attraction in the area and for a good reason. The outdoor sculpture park has works from local and international artists. The design of the space marries the artworks with the natural habitat around it. They highlight the importance of architecture and design in the world today.
The park spans 20 acres of greenery and is a great place for a walk while taking in the sculptures. It’s a unique way to spend an afternoon. More than that, it’s a great place to get some peace and quiet.
Chicago Improv Theater
Another cool spot is the Improv Theater. You can find it on the first floor of Woodfield Mall. This place is great if you want to laugh out loud with friends or family! FireZone is a play center that’s perfect for kids. But if you’re a kid at heart, you can join in on the fun too!
It’s something different than your typical kids’ attraction and was made by actual firefighters. This entertainment center is all about firefighting. Some features include a fire truck, dispatch center, obstacle courses, and even a fire pole! They’re all interactive and super fun to do. It’s a great place to spend an afternoon or evening!
Lynfred Winery is about 4 miles from Schaumburg and is a 10-minute drive. This winery offers wine tastings, tours, and a gift shop. They have over 20 wines to choose from, including reds, whites, blush wines, and even fruit wines.
The winery is a famous place to go if you want a tasting tour or to bring home some delicious wine. It’s also beautiful out here with food and rooms available.
If you need a trip to nature, Busse Woods is the perfect destination near Schaumburg. It’s about a 12-minute drive from the city’s center, near Spring Valley. The woods spans 3,500 acres with a 17-acre forest preserve dedicated to an elk herd.
The woods are a great place for a hike, bike ride, or picnic. There’s also an animal farm, fishing pond, and playgrounds. If you’d like to get on the water, you can rent a kayak or paddleboat and spend some time on Busse Lake.
