Most people wouldn’t drive hours out of their way for dinner in Dothan, Alabama — but after one meal at KBC, they absolutely will the second time. 🌟

Opened by Top Chef Season 16 winner and Dothan native Chef Kelsey Barnard Clark, this hidden gem restaurant in Alabama occupies three side-by-side historic storefronts in the heart of revitalized downtown Dothan, blending French technique with deep Southern roots into something the region has never quite seen before.

It serves lunch, brunch, and supper — and somehow, every single service feels like an event. 🍽️

How They Won Locals’ Hearts

The story of KBC is really the story of one woman betting on her hometown when nobody else would. 🏡

Kelsey Barnard Clark left New York’s Michelin-starred kitchen circuit — including stints at Café Boulud under Gavin Kaysen and Dovetail under John Fraser — and came back to a downtown Dothan that was, in her own words, “literally just falling apart.”

She opened her catering company in 2012 and the restaurant a year later, taking over three crumbling buildings on North Foster Street whose roofs had collapsed, and turned them into one of Alabama’s most talked-about dining destinations. 🏗️

After winning Top Chef in 2019, a Food & Wine feature put KBC squarely on the national map, and the dining room hasn’t slowed down since.

With around 75 employees spanning all ages and backgrounds, KBC has become as much a community institution as it is a restaurant — a living symbol of what a single person’s commitment to a small town can accomplish. 🙌

The Dothan, Alabama dining scene is genuinely different because of KBC, and locals know it.

Brunch, Clark says, is “always slammed” — and one taste of the house-smoked brisket, hand-rolled biscuits, and craft cocktail program makes it immediately obvious why destination dining in Alabama is no longer an oxymoron. 🥃
