How Abracadabra won Pocatello’s hearts

Josh and Jonathan Swain had spent years working in the Idaho Falls steakhouse world, and when they left, they kept their love of restaurants but wanted a different schedule.

Their answer was a place that serves breakfast, brunch, and lunch, then closes before dinner. That clever idea became a small Idaho empire.

The first restaurant opened in Idaho Falls around 2015, and the Pocatello location followed on Yellowstone Avenue, celebrating its first anniversary on February 2, 2019.

Today, owner Lysa Swain says she has been there since the doors first opened.

She says the whole idea is that “the food is the magic,” and that she wants meals to feel as exciting as they did when you were a kid.

The restaurant marked its tenth anniversary in October 2025 and is already planning new dishes.

Students and neighbors rave about the creativity, the generous portions, and a menu that mixes comfort food with playful twists. It’s the kind of hometown restaurant people bring visiting friends to.
