How Black Sheep won Charleston’s hearts
The story starts in Huntington in September 2011, when Patrick Guthrie and Jessica Bright opened the original Black Sheep with a plan to bring something different to town.
In January 2014, the pair brought the idea to Charleston, taking over the restaurant space at 702 Quarrier Street next to Charleston Brewing Company.
Bright said the new spot would have the same menu plus a few new items she hoped would catch on. Then came the plot twist.
In 2016, the owners bought the brewery next door and renamed it Bad Shepherd Beer Company.

After thirteen years, the Huntington location closed in December 2024, leaving Charleston as the only Black Sheep.
Locals now eat on Summers Street, in the Brewers Row district, where the burritos and beers have built a loyal following.
The menu keeps winning hearts by blending Southern, Thai, Korean, and Middle Eastern flavors into every bite.
