San Alfonso del Mar is a private resort in Algarrobo, Chile, about 100 km (62 mi) west of Santiago.[1] The resort had one of the world’s largest swimming pools. At the time of its completion in 2006, it was in the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest pool in the world by area.

The pool is 1,013 m (3,323 ft) long, covering 8 ha (20 acres), containing some 250 million litres (66 million US gallons) of seawater, with a maximum depth of 3.5 m (11.5 ft). The water is pumped from the adjacent Pacific Ocean, then filtered and treated. Unfortunately access to the pool is limited to resort residents only. There is no hotel at the premises, just apartments.

What’s more, its transparent and turquoise color is just like it would be if you were really at sea. Even better than that, it’ll maintain a temperature around 26C during summertime.

The pool is part of a larger project by Crystal Lagoons here in Chile. They’re the ones who conceptualized the place: from the apartment complex, the architecture, and the enormous pool. San Alfonso del Mar was actually the first to ever hold the title of the world’s largest swimming pool.

Other runners-up include the largest lagoon, Crystal Lagoon at Citystars Sharm El Sheikh, Mahasamutr in Thailand, and Dreamworld Fun Lagoon in Pakistan.
